Troop 77 Scouting
(a description of the Boy Scout Program in Troop 77)

  • Parent / Adult Leader concerns - subjects involving shared responsibility
    • Sexual Abuse - detection and defense skills
    • Drug Abuse - awareness and responsibility
    • Youth participation - competing activity scheduling
  • Parent Involvement.... how you can help your boy be successful in Scouting
    • Attendance - regular, on time
    • Rank advancement - get regular reports; remind & assist with "home work"
    • Independence - Cub Scouts is "boy-parent"; Boy Scouts is "boy (parent)". Let your boy take personal responsibility and make a few mistakes.
    • Encourage patience - steady work over many years is the secret to success in Boy Scouts (as in all of live).
  • Statements of Position... how we feel about certain issues
    • Belief in God: in the scout oath a scout promises to do his duty to God. The 12th point of the Scout Law (Reverent) implies tolerance and respect for all religions. Troop 77 has regular religious programs which should be acceptable to Christian, Jewish, and Muslim beliefs.
    • Homosexuality: Puberty is a difficult time for all persons. Boys learn much about themselves during this time and may not fully understand their own sexual nature. Troop 77 will not tolerate open homosexuality. Boys who openly admit homosexuality will be terminated. Frankly, a "don't ask, don't tell" is more appropriate for boys of Scout age.
    • Adult Leaders: Leaders are expected to be of good character and reputation. Homosexuals, atheists, radical political activists, criminals, drug and alchohol abusers will not be accepted. Male adult role models are considered a primary objective. Female leaders are discouraged as long as male adults are available.
